this is one area where every 'fresher' alias 'junior' alias...dreads to enter <for reasons of upholding some decency on this site I cannot be graphic in the rest of the description, the gist, however, is that they are the lowest form of life you can find in college> You can imagine the actual hostel if guys dread to make fresh entrance even into the website NIEBH area. But the best fun I had was in the hostel. i prolly would have missed out on something in life, had i not stayed in the hostel. I owe many of my good lifetime friends to the hostel. It's quite amazing how hostelites are inclined to not studying, not writing tests unless it is ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE (wish I had abigger font) to avoid writing one. I remember how the 9 of us hostelites in E&C resolved to study and score high marks in a hard test under some crazy E&C lecturer. preparation went on for 3 (yes I said 3, THREE - 3) days, 3 full days. then the night before, Patro decided that sleep was the best solution to the questions of the next days test. he decided not to get others spirits down by saying that he'd decided to drop out and kept silent. as night passed there were a few more secret drop-outs, and at 10:30 I started my bike to go and give the test. when i reached the class i realised that I did not have a bluebook and neither did i have 2 bucks to buy one. and was not too keen on the test anyways, so i dropped and returned to the hostel -only to find the rest 8 of them partying the bunking of test!! But, the fun part of the hostel was the food. interesting acronyms came up for the food we used to get in the mess, i jus remember one: PPT - (peeli patli tatti) which that fellow Ramaswamy used to call as 'dal'. And there was this song adapted from baazigar: "Yeh kaali kaali sabzi, yeh peeli patli dal, yeh motitagdi roti, jaise bhaison ke khall. khaye jo isko janam, who jaye haspataal...." There were some people like me, Pussycat, baby.. whose taking bath would be an event was an event rarer than seeing haley's comet. And there was this pleasant feeling of having done a great job after stealing bread from the store (experts were YP, and pussycat), I and YP breaking the glasses in a cold-coordinated way... people underwent massive transition during hostel stay. I remember, when i joined as a 'fresher' there were about 5-6 guys in the batch who used to booze. when we had our final year farewell, i guess there were about 5-6 guys who settled for soft-drinks.. i could ramble on for ever about hostel life. i'd better stop (or my cursor may run out of ink ;)

Those 4 golden years of my stay at NIE is highly memorable. Nice were those days without much classes . Those wandering sessions in the corridor(usually CS used to stand for Corridor Service) . This was the picture in the early days of the semester(say month 1). The second month used to be a little better with classes on schedule. The third month used to be real fun(Rather hectic) where in the Exam Schedule used to appear on the board and we fight to get a m/c in the lab(Those days there were only 20 m/c in the lab) to submit the print outs. Those m/cs used to take ages to boot. Now that we are out of the college, we really feel so bad for the lack of infra structure in our college. However, now it is really nice to have such huge labs and the oppurtunities given to students for their growth in the path of Enlightment. NIE was actually my place of worship which helped me frame my personality to build in my Confidence, Self Learning Capabilities, Positive Approach etc. So friends, this is my small piece of experience at NIE.

Recollections

It's hard not to get nostalgic about our Mysore days. Where else can you plan bike trips to Ooty on the spur of the moment. And those good times at RL and Pelican and ofcourse our fav Highway dhaba... And dropping by at Sooraj's place just to con Aunty into offering us her special Lemonade with mint leaves, and perhaps a nice dinner (I was a hostelite...) It was amazing how restless we used to get if there wasn't atleast one strike in a semester. And the sudden urges to visit the washroom, chai stall or canteen the moment a class starts. Those Wednesday afternoon classes really defined insomnia - "It is the condition when you can't sleep in a Wed. afternoon BJS class". These classes were a very good excuse to catchup on things like which latest (latest??) movies are around in town, gaining perfection in games like Bull's eye, XO's ... those are the times when we wished for a remote control with a single button - the fast forward button. These classes really sharpened my Math skills - counting the exact percentage of attendance I have and how many more I need to attent to get to the magical figure of 60%. I really wore down my Calculator batteries on this one. I did love the academic part too.. after all you cant appreciate the good without having known the bad!! On a more serious note I am really thankful to Dr. Ananthashayana and Dr. M. S. Shivakumar - I used to see them work and get inspired to really do something, be someone.. And my favourite teacher in NIE , Ms. Rohini Nagapadma (I guess better known as RNP). It was the Computer Networks elective under her that has driven me to pursue Networking for a career. I would be joining Cisco Systems and the credits go to her. really wish we could go back in time and re-live those days... Vinay USC

My career at NIE began with the thing most NIEans cherish.Yes, what else could it be other than kanti's 'by-two'.I had the very first by-two with my mom on the day i finished my admissions at nie.Later on it continued as a panacea to control myself from sleeping in BJS's afternoon sessions.I miss NIE, the atmosphere, the babes (especially the ones in C.S) , strikes, anyone remembers the 0.5 petrol??.The craziest thing i did around NIE??.Zoomed on Vinay's shogun at 90 infront of NIE bh through lh. Well, those were the days........

When I first came in to this college and that too into the Electrical Engg dept., little did I know how tough the subjects were. My recollections take me back to the second year when we had probably the toughest subjects to counter. After the test booklets were graded the usual questions we asked each other was, "Yeno? sonne na? onda yerada?!!". Yes, those were the days... But, as time went by we started to learn things and finally cleared the dreaded year, albeit with decent but not bad marks. The canteen, chai shop, sneaking away to a movie at sterling, the strong competition during cricket matches (I was the captain of my class and I'm proud to say that we won only one solitary match during those years!!!), struggling to get a 15 on the test, 75% attendance will remain etched in my memory forever. One important thing is that the way of teaching electrical engg courses has to be improved. Students must be given the confidence that electrical engg is a wonderful subject and taught in a way that draws them towards it, rather then keep talking about how tough it is and stuff like that. The professors are very good and knowledgeable. I've learnt a lot at NIE and will never forget that phase of my life. May NIE shine brighter in the future.

And finally I thank the people behind this web site through which old students can convey their memories.

NIE has been one of the most enjoyable phases of my life!

The Classes, Assignments, Tests......... My God! Was it hectic... It always was the same story for each and every semester. Most of us boys never maintained notes. Each time we had a test, we would rush to Sunil or Ravi with some notebooks belonging to the 'Sincere' Guys like Anantharam or Girls like Gayathri for Photocopies!!

Assignments, Tests and Exams apart we had a lot of fun!! And we had some people in my class who knew how to have fun!!! The stops at 'Chai Shop', the snacks at the canteen, bunking lecturers, going to movies, the trips to Delhi Choice Punjabi Dhaba. And of course there were the college functions like TECHNIEKS. Man....those were the days!!

Four years..........they went so fast. Looking back I can't help but miss my college and classmates. Whenever I think of my days at NIE, it brings a smile to my face.

During NIE days, Cricket was my life..i used to play, watch and help our PD Mr.H N Shankar Narayana to organise tournaments. The fact that our team won the inter-class tennis tournament will remain etched in my memory. For 7 semesters i struggled to make a single team, but as always there used to be 2 sometimes 3 teams. Finally in 8 semester everybody agreed make a single team and play the tournament. During the previous semesters reaching 2 round was an achievement and invariably end up losing against Venkatesh and Harindranath Sharmas IP team. It became a sort of a jinx to us. But this time we were determined to win and show what the previous CS batch could not do. The previous team had stalwarts like Ajay VB, Satyendra, Ravi Srivastav to name a few. Our team had all ex-captains--myself, Vinod,Mahesh and Karthik but the team was captained by none other than Irfan Magray, the coolest captain and a wonderful tactician. We cruised to the semis with ease, but here we were facing the previous years runners 6Mech A, which was considered to be a strong opponent. Player to player they were good and Rahim with his leg-cutters was sure to trouble us. This match definitely required some extra-ordinary performances...and it came from unexpected quarters. We were chasing around 60 runs to win in 12overs, then a blitzkreig struck in the form of Jagan Dhara who smashed all the bowlers including the famed Rahim. No amount of pacifying him by Vinod helped. Jagan was on fire!!!!Vinod too for his part played very well..finally we were thru to the finals, for the first and last time in our careers in NIE. The finals too was somewhat exciting, having consistently scored more than 60 runs in every match, we managed to reach 57, then our bowling did the trick. We won the trophy and "Man of the Match" was none other than me. This gave me immense satisfaction and i am thankful to all my teammates--Jagan,Vinod,Irfan,Nikhil,Mahesh,Rajesh,Manjunath, Sudhakar,Karthik,Sashidhar,Anoop and all my classmates who were there cheering us to victory. A victory which was sweet, which of course will savor it....Three cheers to NIE!!!!!
